IDOLS EM DRAMAS TELEVISIVOS CHINESES: CONTEXTO HISTÓRICO, POP E SUBVERSÃO POLÍTICA EM THE UNTAMED
Olhar para o balanço das relações internacionais no século XXI e não falar sobre a China não apenas é uma atitude temerosa como receita para construção de uma imagem que é parcial e pouco realista. Seu tamanho e sua força produtiva transformaram o país de um gigante agricultor em grande potência econômica. Contudo, diferente de outras nações, a China opta por exercer boa parte de sua influência a partir de estratégias que são, em princípio, menos fortes, já que não militares ou impositivas. Nesse sentido, comércio e cultura são aliados imprescindíveis do soft power. Nesta comunicação olhamos para uma dessas esferas, a da cultura, a partir do recorte dos dramas televisivos históricos do tipo wuxia. Procuraremos traçar a tipologia das produções da teledramaturgia chinesa, discutir as características da wuxia e, a partir da análise de The Untamed, série televisiva produzida e transmitida entre os anos de 2018 e 2019, analisar as articulações que se estabelecem entre cultura e indústria pop e entre indústria pop e política na China, além de olhar para como, por aqui, no Ocidente, recepcionamos essas empreitadas. Procuraremos demonstrar o potencial deste fenômeno através de seus números impressionantes e que soluções criativas são engendradas por escritores, diretores e atores para trabalhar nas entrelinhas da censura do partido chinês, contando histórias cujas narrativas nem sempre coincidem com o grupo de valores que o discurso oficial pretende produzir e reproduzir.

Abstract:
Looking at the balance at international relations at the 21st century without mentioning China is a recipe for drawing an incomplete and unrealistic picture of our times. China's sheer size and productive strength have transformed the country from an agricultural giant into an enormously complex economic potency. However, unlike other nations, China has chosen to exert the power that comes with its economical conquests not militarily, but mostly, through its soft power, meaning it influences commercially and culturally other than by brute strength. This paper looks at one of said fields, culture. And it does so by shedding a light into a certain type of television series, called wuxia. Here we aim at defining different types of TV dramas in China, highlighting the wuxia category and, by analyzing on of said dramas, The Untamed (produced and aired between 2018 and 2019), analyzing how the pop industry, politics and society are intertwined in China. We also peek at how the West has received The Untamed phenomenon and try to show its potential not only due to its impressive numbers but also to its ingenious solutions proposed by writers, directors and actors, who have all worked between the lines to go around censorship and managed to tell stories that do not necessarily coincide with the official discourse.
