Abstract: This article proposes a study of the concept of ideology in Marilena Chauí. The aim is to understand the “competent discourse” (CHAUÍ, 2014) in Education, and, therefore, question the school and training. In humanity at the beginning of the 21st century, concepts are being emptied of scientific meanings, therefore, understanding them becomes an urgent and necessary act for the human sciences, as is the case of Education. Likewise, this occurs with the emptying of the school's meaning, which has been aligned with an ideological discourse in favor of training, competition, and technique subservient to the market. Thus, to shed light on these issues, in addition to Chauí (2014, 2016), the study is also based on Adorno (1995) and Coêlho (2011, 2012). One of the most relevant results of this study is the fact that the “competent discourse” in Education has served to legitimize the dominant ideology in the school as an organization; therefore, it is necessary to promote the “counter-discourse” (CHAUÍ, 2014) in view of human formation.
