Abstract: This study addresses the formation of professional identity and the role of the present tutor in higher education in the distance education system. In the wake of technological progress, private educational institutions cling to the use of technology for educational applications so that both education as the technology are seen as two sides of the same cultural process of teaching. The private higher education institution of distance learning can be seen as a mechanism for serving positivist ideology, focused on productivity, and where possible educational reforms are perceived as "engines of economic renewal, social transformation and national solidarity" (MASCIA, 2002, p. 53), and which dissipate any dissimilarity according unit (CORACINI, 2003). Was interviewed five present tutors of a higher education institution in the distance. We have seen that the individual holding the tutoring lacks professional identity because, among respondents, there is no holding the tutoring exclusively, and this position mainly played as a second source of income. We sought to characterize the relationship identity teacher-tutor in an aspect of claim-denial him and it was proposed thus an argument based on a square-generating sense route.
