IDENTIDADE CULTURAL EM TRÂNSITO: UM OLHAR A PARTIR DO CONTO “RÉPLICA” DE CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE
Este trabalho objetiva apresentar uma leitura crítica do conto “Réplica”, da autora nigeriana Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. Nos propomos a analisar o texto com vistas para a questão da diáspora, destacando aspectos da identidade das personagens que nos permitem pensar o fenômeno da viagem como meio para a aculturação, para hibridização. Também procuramos pontuar aspectos dentro do conto que nos permitem pensar um sentido metafórico para o termo réplica, o qual aparece como título do texto, mas que também faz alusão a uma possibilidade de vida dupla, de aspecto de cópia, de imitação. Para ancorar nossas discussões convocamos Hall (2003) e (2008) com suas relevantes contribuições acerca da diáspora, das identidades culturais, Silva (2008) e seu pensamento sobre a identidade como produção social, dentre outros. Através das discussões postas percebemos que as personagens da narrativa passam por mudanças culturais, físicas e comportamentais que refletem na sua identidade. Notamos ainda que, por tratar-se de sujeitos em condição de diáspora, tendem a apresentar identidades que oscilam entre dois pólos, um voltado para sua cultura de origem, outro da nova cultura em que vivem, constituindo identidades que se localizam num entre-lugar, num espaço de negociação.

Abstract:
This work aims to present a critical reading of the short story “Réplica”, by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. We proposed to analyze the text emphasizing the diaspora question and highlighting aspects of the characters’ cultural identity that allow us to think about the phenomenon of travel as a means of acculturation and hybridization. We also tried to point out aspects within the short story that allow us to think about a metaphorical meaning for the term replica, which appears as text title, but which also alludes to a possibility of double life, of copy aspect, of imitation. To support our discussions, we are based on Hall (2003) and (2008) with their pertinent contributions about the diaspora, cultural identities, Silva (2008) and his thinking about identity as social production, among others. Through the discussions presented, we realized that the characters in the narrative undergo cultural, physical and behavioral changes that reflect on their identity. We also realized that, for being characters in a condition of diaspora, they tend to have identities that oscillate between two poles, one focused on their culture of origin, and the another focused on the new culture in which they live, constituting identities that are located in an inter-place, in a negotiation space.
