Abstract: Facing contemporary social challenges, communication has transformed into a field of narrative disputes, demanding reflection on the interpretation and choice of words. In this context, thinkers such as Leonardo Boff and Voltaire highlight the importance of "lugar de fala" (place of speech/social positioning) and the impact of words, especially concerning the misinformation propagated on social media. Objective: To analyze the influence of communication and narratives in polarized contexts, emphasizing the role of words in discourse construction and public opinion formation, as well as the challenges posed by the dissemination of fake news and hate speech. Methodology: The study employed a bibliographic analysis (based on Leonardo Boff, Voltaire, Aristotle, and Marcus Aurelius) and an analysis of a recent fake news case reported by G1. Historical and philosophical aspects of communication, alongside the impact of social media on contemporary discourse formation, were also considered. Results: The analysis demonstrated that polarized communication and misinformation directly impact the perception of reality and interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, the centrality of education and critical thinking in combating intolerant discourse and promoting respectful dialogue was evidenced. Conclusion: Responsibility in the use of words and reflection on the impact of narratives are essential for avoiding conflicts and strengthening peaceful coexistence. Education, by stimulating critical analysis and empathy, emerges as a vital tool for building a healthier public debate founded on ethics and mutual respect.
