Abstract: Hormone therapy applied to bovine reproduction is shown to be a consolidated technique through satisfactory results over the years. Although it is an area in constant scientific evolution, every year new research is developed, hormones are synthesized, new hormonal combinations are proposed, protocols are adjusted. Thus, an extensive scientific literature focused on the area is available every day, focusing on different lines of research. In view of this, both undergraduate students in veterinary medicine, who are inclined towards this area, as well as working professionals, must consolidate the basic knowledge available on reproductive physiology and hormonal pharmacology. At the same time, they need to increase their knowledge. Therefore, this literature review gathers the main information about aspects of the reproductive physiology of the bovine female and the main hormones used in reproduction: progesterone (P4), estradiol esters (E2), prostaglandin (PGF2α), gonadotropins and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
