Abstract: This study aims to position oral history as a methodological tool for research and memory preservation. Equipped with a consistent set of particularly technical procedures, it should not be confused with other forms of capturing human thought. Its process consists of provoking, in the interviewee, the effort of recollection, where memory is externalized through language, captured by technological tools, and converted into written and audiovisual language, becoming a historical document representative of an approach to the past made in the present time. Each of the three categories of oral history is capable of evoking different aspects and contexts of memory, where the location of the appropriate temporal frames enables the activation of a true network of memories, often ignored by the interviewee themselves. Thus, oral history becomes an important tool in the fight against forgetting or in the justification of certain forgettings.
