Abstract: Background: The historical evolution of experimental biomedical, clinical and pharmacological research with Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) has allowed enormous advances in the studies of solid organ transplantation in humans in contemporary times. Objective: to elucidate throughout scientific evolution the health achievements through HLA research for transplants. Metadology: This is a Literature Review, based on the acronym TQO and including the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Capes Periodicals, Google Scholar, Embase, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Science Direct and Scopus databases. Terms of interest found in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) were used as descriptors. Discussion and Results: the retrospective of research on HLA throughout human history shows the multidisciplinary nature of the work in the practice of solid graft transplantation. Conclusion: the experimental and clinical research techniques of Human Leukocyte Antigens at the medical, biomedical and pharmacological levels have provided great advances for the success of human solid graft transplants.
