Abstract: Artworks—whether photography, cinema, theater, or even gestures—can carry layers of meaning that are decoded by observers in multiple ways, either reinforcing or challenging preexisting norms and values. Perception often evokes affective responses that can be deeply personal and vary significantly among different viewers. In turn, memory, this vast repository of images and experiences, can be revisited with new values and reinterpretations. This collective article, written and discussed in the History of Communication discipline within the Postgraduate Program—Master's and Doctorate—at Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná, aims to investigate how image and memory interact in shaping human perception within different historical and communicative contexts. Our intention is not only to uncover the history behind these memories but also to explore the role they play in shaping individual and collective identity and in preserving cultures.
