HISTÓRIA DA CIÊNCIA MEDIEVAL EM PERSPECTIVA - A CONTINUIDADE EM EDWARD GRANT
A origem da chamada “ciência moderna” é tema de uma das maiores controvérsias da História das Ciências. Atualmente, a perspectiva teórica hegemônica é aquela que defende que a ciência moderna teve suas raízes na chamada “Revolução Científica”, porém, nas últimas décadas, esta visão tem sido reavaliada por alguns historiadores. Denominados “continuístas”, estes pensadores pesquisam as contribuições do campo intelectual medieval na construção de um pensamento crítico, lógico e racional, fundamental para a metodologia científica moderna. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar estudos do historiador medievalista Edward Grant que, ao voltar sua atenção ao papel desempenhado pela filosofia natural na Baixa Idade Média, identifica os fundamentos das ciências modernas séculos antes da Revolução Científica. Para tanto, buscamos alinhamento com as diretrizes metodológicas relacionadas à História da Historiografia da Ciência.

Abstract:
The origin of the conventionally called “modern science" is the subject of one of the greatest controversies in the History of Science. Currently, the hegemonic theoretical perspective is that which defends that modern science had its roots in the "Scientific Revolution", but in recent decades this view has been reassessed by some historians. Called "continuists," these thinkers search the contributions of the medieval intellectual field in the construction of a critical, logical and rational thought, fundamental to modern scientific methodology. This work aims to analyze studies developed by the medievalist historian Edward Grant who, highlighting the important role of natural philosophy in the Lower Middle Ages, identifies the foundations of modern science centuries before the Scientific Revolution. To this end, we seek alignment with methodological guidelines related to the History of the Historiography of Science.
