Abstract: This paper aims to present the experience derived from three projects developed at IFMG between 2023 and 2025, focused on working with historical sources related to the municipality of Ibirité, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, from an Afrocentric perspective. This approach proved fundamental for the teaching of African, Afro-Brazilian, and Indigenous History, in accordance with Laws No. 10.639/03 and No. 11.645/08. We believe that the projects carried out enabled a critical reflection on the role of Black, African, and diasporic individuals in Ibirité’s society, as well as their relationships with dominant political groups, from the nineteenth century to the 1970s. We intend to discuss the relationship among Teaching, Research, and Extension as a strategy for strengthening the Humanities in integrated technical courses—particularly History—highlighting its relevance for citizenship education. Furthermore, we aim to address the need to sustain initiatives that ensure the continuity of previous projects, contributing to the consolidation of African, Afro-Brazilian, and Indigenous History within the school curriculum in a comprehensive manner.
