Abstract: This study evaluated the influence of the direct synthesis of copper-modified SBA-15 molecular sieve on the material's structural properties and product distribution in the hydrocracking reaction of crude soybean oil. N2 physisorption analyses indicated that metal incorporation promoted an increase in specific surface area and pore volume, accompanied by a reduction in pore diameter, suggesting the formation of copper oxides within the mesoporous channels. Atomic absorption spectrometry confirmed the successful incorporation of copper, even under acidic hydrothermal conditions. In the catalytic tests, the modified materials outperformed pure SBA-15, favoring cracking and deoxygenation reactions. The total selectivity for hydrocarbons jumped from 59.18% with pure SBA-15 up to 72.09% with Cu20SBA-15, thereby reducing the formation of oxygenated compounds. The Cu20SBA-15 and Cu40SBA-15 catalysts showed the best performance for light fractions, doubling the yield in the gasoline range compared to the pure support. Thus, the insertion of the metal proved to be a key factor in modulating product distribution, enhancing the deoxygenation of the crude oil toward higher-value commercial fuels. l for application in adsorption systems to remove emerging pollutants.
