Abstract: Educational processes have been influenced by the use of the Internet, virtual environments have been created, with platform tools for e-learning, used by teachers in different ways. This research aimed to analyze the preferences of university teachers on tools for e-learning platforms. It was quantitative, with a non- experimental design and a descriptive level. The population was 20 teachers from the "Eloy Alfaro" Secular University of Manabí, Ecuador, who used virtual platforms for e-learning. The collection of information was carried out with a questionnaire. As results among the learning-oriented tools, the preference was the use of synchronous communication; for those oriented to productivity, the use of tutorials; for student involvement, user authentication; for those intended for publication of courses and content, the use of student monitoring; for student involvement, user authentication; for those intended for publication of courses and content, the use of student monitoring; for the design of study plans, the reuse and sharing of content and for knowledge management, the use of comprehensive knowledge systems. It was concluded that the reasons for the non-use, or infrequent use of tools can be diverse. It is recommended to continue inquiring about other aspects, such as student preferences.
