Abstract: Minas Gerais is privileged state in terms of geographic positioning, as it is influenced by different phytophysiognomies and a huge mix of landscapes. The Atlantic Forest, in its turn, has enormous representation in this state and contributes to its great richness of fauna. Inserted in this biome is the Mesoregion of Zona da Mata Mineira, where the city of Guidoval is present. However, what is observed in this region is a heterogeneous matrix of pastures and farming, as its original landscape has been significantly modified, leaving a mosaic of forest fragments with variable conservation conditions. Furthermore, the region still lacks studies aimed at understanding the distribution of amphibian and reptile species. Thus, our objective was to survey the herpetofauna in a location known as Serra da Onça, in the municipality of Guidoval, Minas Gerais. To this end, for two years we carried out monthly samplings, through active search, pitfalls, funnel traps and local collectors. Twenty species of frogs (six families) were recorded, in addition to 10 species of snakes (four families). The most efficient sampling methods were active search and local collectors. Sampling seems to be sufficient for anurans, but the same does not happen for reptiles. Generalist species and those from open area were recorded, with rare exceptions, which was expected considering the impoverishment of the landscapes in the sampled area. However, this does not mean that Serra da Onça is not important in this its regional context. The entire region of the Pomba River basin, as a whole, presents a great deforestation, requiring urgent actions to recover and conserve the remaining fragments, especially those close to the sources of the Pomba River's tributaries. We understand that this study is a primordial step towards understanding the remaining faunal representation of this region.
