Abstract: ABSTRACT: Abdominal hernias are defined as the protrusion of intra-abdominal contents through a weakened area of the abdominal wall. This is a common condition in surgical practice and may affect individuals of all ages, with a higher prevalence in males. The most frequent types are inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernias, which can cause pain, discomfort, and increased risk of incarceration or strangulation if not properly treated. This chapter aims to present the main types of abdominal hernias, their clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and the most appropriate therapeutic approaches, with emphasis on surgical management. Risk factors, early diagnosis, and the selection of the best surgical technique based on hernia type and patient profile will also be discussed. Understanding these aspects is crucial for effective and safe hernia management.
