Abstract: Hepatopathies are common conditions in domestic animals and represent a significant challenge in veterinary practice due to their complex nature. In this study, a comprehensive post-mortem analysis of an animal's liver was conducted. It was observed that the liver exhibited multiple prominent nodulations on its surface, displaying a pale coloration that extended throughout the organ. These nodules varied in size from 1 cm to 3 cm in diameter. Upon closer examination under the microscope, hepatocytes (the liver cells) were moderately preserved and organized into hepatic lobules, but they exhibited subtle anomalies. The hepatocytes displayed wide and clear cytoplasm, with noticeable macro and microvesicular changes. Occasionally, they featured a reticulated texture and a discrete presence of eosinophilic substance. The hepatocyte nuclei were small, eccentrically located relative to the periphery, hyperchromatic, and with inconspicuous nucleoli. Furthermore, it was noted that the portal spaces exhibited telangiectasia, moderate autolysis, and ballooning degeneration of hepatocytes. In some areas, hepatocytes at the periphery of lobular centers displayed central vein dilation. Additionally, a focal capsular region appeared thin, with infiltration of vacuolar cells permeating collagen fibers. The hepatic stroma was sparse, with fine fibrous trabeculae, and no malignant characteristics were identified. Based on the results obtained, it is confirmed that the animal presented signs consistent with vacuolar hepatopathy, also known as vacuolar hepatic steatosis. This condition is characterized by the excessive accumulation of lipid-filled vacuoles in liver cells, specifically hepatocytes.
