Abstract: This study analyzes graphene as a prominent material in the current scientific and technological landscape, addressing its properties, production methods, applications, and environmental challenges. Graphene is a two-dimensional allotrope of carbon with a hexagonal structure and sp² hybridization, exhibiting high mechanical strength, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, and a large specific surface area. The methodology was based on a literature review of recent scientific articles, allowing the analysis of top-down and bottom-up synthesis techniques, such as mechanical exfoliation and chemical vapor deposition (CVD), as well as sustainable approaches using biomass and waste-derived precursors. Applications cover areas such as energy, electronics, civil engineering, and environmental technologies, with emphasis on energy storage and material reinforcement, demonstrating significant improvements in material performance. It is concluded that graphene has high technological and sustainable potential, although challenges remain regarding large-scale production, cost, and environmental impacts.
