Abstract: The inadequate management of industrial packaging waste in Brazil has become a serious environmental and public health problem. The lack of an efficient reverse logistics system to deal with this waste generates problems such as soil and water pollution, as well as increasing the risks of chemical contamination for both industry workers and the general population. Thus, the objective of this study was to present an analysis of the management of solid waste from industries in Brazil, specifically empty and uncleaned packaging, 10 years after the implementation of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) through Law 12,305 in 2010. For this study, the researchers conducted surveys and analyses of secondary data obtained from reports, technical manuals, government agencies responsible for waste control, legislation related to waste management, information provided by associations of companies that already implement reverse logistics for packaging waste, as well as official reporting agencies on waste management and final disposal of packaging waste. The results indicate that, after 10 years of PNRS, reverse logistics is still not effectively implemented and functioning in the country as predicted in the policy, and critical issues need to be collectively addressed involving the federal government and productive sectors in order to solve them and contribute to the achievement of objectives and goals established by sectoral agreements, aiming to reduce energy and material consumption, improve environmental quality, and enhance the quality of life for the population
