Abstract: Waste generated through teaching and research activities at universities has become a major concern in relation to environmental issues. So, are required to diagnose and develop action plans for the management of waste, mainly from the standpoint of minimization, segregation, reuse and disposal. This work aimed to establish strategies for the treatment and recovery of chemical waste using classical methods of chemical analysis from residues generated in both teaching and research laboratories at a University Center of Northern Paraná (Brazil). Waste acidic and alkaline solutions were diluted, neutralized and disposed of in the sink. Mixtures of metal ions and their solutions were diluted and disposed of in the sink. Samples of Ni and Mn were treated with NaOH (aq) , excess solution of Na 2 CO 3 and dimethylglyoxime. The precipitates of Ni and Mn were incinerated. Solutions of Ba 2+ and Sr 2+ were duly precipitates and incinerated. Samples containing Pb were treated and the residue was stored for reuse. The waste from liquid miscible blends between halogenated solvents and non-halogenated were subjected to fractional distillation or evaporation methods. The pure liquids were made available for reuse. This work has shown that it is possible to recover a large part of the chemical waste generated in laboratories, in addition to being economically viable becomes a useful tool in minimizing the impact of these wastes on public health and on the environment.
