Abstract: This scientific paper presents some results of a research that aimed to describe the terms used in the production of cassava flour in the Amazon of Pará. The general objective of the study was to develop a monolingual electronic glossary in Brazilian Portuguese, which mapped the geographic distribution of terms, recognizing the specialized language associated with the traditional practice of this activity as local knowledge. The method adopted was based on socioterminological studies, according to the guidelines of Gaudin (1993; 2003); Faulstich (1995; 2006), combined with the perspective of Linguistic Geography (COSERIU, 1982; BRANDÃO, 1991; THUN, 2005; CARDOSO, 2010). Interviews were carried out with farmers from the main mesoregions of the state of Pará (Amazonas Lower, Marajó, Northeast, Southeast and Pará Southwest), constituting a specialized oral language corpus. The analysis of terminological data followed socioterminological protocols, including semi-automatic extraction of terms and cartographic mapping of some geographic variants. The results demonstrated the cultural and socioeconomic importance of flour production in the region, showing that a large part of Pará's agricultural production is destined for the manufacture of cassava flour. The research concludes that the terminology associated with flour production in the Amazon, Pará, Brazil is a reflection of the sociocultural practice of rural workers and that the study of this terminology contributes to the preservation of the region's lexical and cultural heritage.
