GEORG SIMMEL E A REFLEXÃO SOBRE O CRESCIMENTO DAS CIDADES MÉDIAS BRASILEIRAS
O objetivo desse artigo é compreender o crescimento dos municípios médios brasileiros a partir da tradição sociológica consolidada por Georg Simmel. A pesquisa utiliza dados de natureza quantitativa, gerados a partir das contagens populacionais de 2004, 2014 e 2016 feitas pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), que são cotejados com a teoria social que explica o fenômeno urbano a partir das reflexões apresentadas por Simmel. Os principais resultados encontrados são: as cidades médias têm crescimento mais expressivo que as metrópoles tradicionais, crescem de forma mais intensa as cidades médias da região Norte do país e há, portanto, um modo de vida urbano que não foi esquadrinhado pela teoria social brasileira na mesma intensidade e com as mesmas apropriações teóricas que foram empreendidas no estudo das metrópoles tradicionais.

Abstract:
The aim of this article is to understand the growth of medium Brazilian municipalities based on the sociological tradition consolidated by Georg Simmel. The research uses data of quantitative nature, generated from the population counts of 2004, 2014 and 2016 made by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which are compared with the social theory that explains the urban phenomenon from the reflections presented by Simmel. The main results found are: medium-sized cities have more expressive growth than traditional metropolises, medium-sized cities in the northern region of the country grow more intensely and there is, therefore, an urban way of life that was not searched by brazilian social theory in same intensity and with the same theoretical appropriations that were undertaken in the study of traditional metropolises.
