Abstract: The paper seeks to highlight the association of geomorphological compartments conditioned by folding systems in two geographically distinct regions, but with similarities with regard to the geomorphic evolution of the landscape: the Planalto Atlântico Capixaba, in Brazil, and the Planalto do Karoo, in South Africa. Comparing the morphological compartmentalization of these two plateaus shows how they are associated with fold belt systems that condition the evolution of their terrain, controlling the fluvial evolution of the Knickpoints and the drainage incision. In this way, it also discusses the river sectioning zones and how the folds lithostructurally condition the hydrogeomorphic evolution of the landscape, with mechanisms that are very similar in the evolution process, even though they are in different areas. The characteristics of the geomorphological compartmentation and the altimetric levels of the landforms, controlled by the elements present in the folds and faults, will also be presented, making it possible to formulate a geomorphic interpretation consistent with the landforms – lithostructure relationship.
