Abstract: Gender inequalities affect social relations, including those that take place in academia, historically created by and for men. The cultural structure of universities, as the main locus for the development of academic-scientific production, shows a male vocation and despite the increase in the number of women entering college education as undergraduate students internationally, they continue to not progress in the academic hierarchy in the same conditions and speed as their male peers. In Brazil, the reality found is not different. Even though the academic career is predominantly developed in public universities, which confers an apparent equality in the career, the existence of gender asymmetries has already been reported in some of these institutions. Thus, it is necessary to discuss how gender issues interfere in the professional trajectory in the Brazilian academic environment. This study aims to analyze gender relations in the academic career in Brazil, based on a literature review. The research, of an exploratory nature, adopts as its design a systematic literature review, from a time interval of 10 years (2011 to 2020). The database chosen was the CAPES Theses and Dissertations Database, thus the dissertations and theses defended in Brazil in the indicated time interval are part of the study. The relevant material collected and categorized and demonstrates how the production is distributed by area of knowledge, year, author's gender, methodological approach and main factors involved in the Brazilian academic career.
