Abstract: The pelvic floor musculature (PFM) is functionally directly involved in supporting the pelvic organs, controlling urinary and fecal function, stability of the lumbar spine and sexual function. The physiotherapist plays an important role in the search to guarantee and/or improve the functionality of PFM, whether in a situation of prevention or illness. The physiotherapeutic approach to PFM functionality involves a detailed and thorough assessment with a biomechanical focus and correlation with other associated structures and continues with the use of techniques and resources based on behavioral therapy.
