Abstract: The paper delves into the intricacies of the theoretical process, the nexus between theory and practice, and the impact of theoretical discourses on educational research. Emphasis is placed on the significance of interdisciplinary approaches, and a delineation of the associated challenges is provided. In this regard, it scrutinizes the relevance of the sociology of education and underscores the necessity to scrutinize school processes, institutions, and systems, as well as the interdependency between social structures and organization, on one hand, and educational processes, on the other. The text raises several thought-provoking questions, such as how theoretical discourses are approached in educational research, their influence on certain authors, and the extent to which education can be "oriented" by these discourses, among others. It underscores the importance of demonstrating that not only can this be accomplished but should be undertaken promptly to bolster the theoretical-epistemological foundation in educational research projects, particularly in the Mexican context. In summary, it is an academic reflection that underscores the significance of theorizing action and interdisciplinary approaches in comprehending educational issues.
