Abstract: The Brazilian economy's prominent sector is livestock farming. This activity significantly contributes to the generation of income for various sectors of society, covering the entire chain of animal products. Considering that herd feeding costs represent the largest portion of total production costs, a viable alternative with a better cost/benefit ratio is pasture-based animal production. This modality is quite widespread in Brazil, representing the largest portion of livestock production models. Among the forages most used for grazing, the genus Urochloa stands out, as it presents species with good adaptation capacity to the most diverse climatic scenarios, in addition to good adaptability to integrated agricultural production systems. The grasses U. brizantha cv. Marandu and U. decumbens cv. Basilisk are the most used in Brazil, being widely found in these types of consortium. The technology of silvopastoral systems is in evidence, as it provides increased production, by bringing together trees and pasture in the same space, the possibility of recovering degraded areas and environmental sustainability. In view of this, understanding the behavior of the forage crops most used in systems that combine trees and pasture, when they are included in these systems, is of fundamental importance. The arboreal element provides shading for the lower strata, where the pasture is located. In response to shading, forage plants present morphophysiological changes that can alter their response to traditional management, in full sun, which relates plant height to light interception. Therefore, the objective of this review is to address the main aspects related to the use of the main forages of the genus Urochloa in silvopastoral systems
