Abstract: Abstract: Medicinal plants have been used by humans as means of treatment for various diseases and health problems since ancient times. Among the various pathologies are skin diseases, such as wounds, acne, mycoses and psoriasis, for example, for which phytotherapy has proven to be a valid therapeutic option. The present study aims to investigate evidence available in the literature that points to the approach of medicinal plants as an alternative treatment for skin diseases. A narrative literature review was then carried out, taking into account articles published between 2020 and 2024, in Portuguese and English, available in full for free and which dealt with the topic in question. It was found that phytotherapy is a practice that presents positive results in the treatment of skin disorders, since plants have chemical substances in their composition with analgesic, healing, antiseptic, emollient effects, among others, in addition to their derivative products manifesting a lower rate of side effects, and with this arsenal of properties, they help both in the treatment and cure of the most common skin diseases. However, there is a need to carry out more studies to provide more information regarding correct management and care for individuals who opt for this strategy.
