Abstract: Neurogenic bowel is a frequent complication after spinal cord injury and can be defined as impairment of gastrointestinal and anorectal function after lesions of the central nervous system. The most common associated clinical conditions are fecal retention or incontinence. Commonly in 95% of cases after spinal cord injury, retention situations are found more frequently with progression to difficulty in evacuation, constipation, abdominal pain and abdominal distension. Conservative therapeutic approaches such as pelvic physiotherapy have collaborated in the treatment. This chapter aims to present general notions about the evaluation and therapeutic intervention of pelvic physiotherapy in the approach of neurogenic bowel associated with spinal cord injury. Pelvic physiotherapy in the management of neurogenic bowel improves the evacuation pattern in terms of frequency and fecal consistency.
