FEMINIZAÇÃO NA NEUROCIRURGIA
Apesar dos avanços na igualdade de gêneros, o campo da neurocirurgia é majoritariamente composto por homens. Apesar disso, o ingresso de mulheres na área tem apresentado proeminência mesmo com o enfrentamento de barreiras sociais, culturais e econômicas. As mulheres latino-americanas estão diversificando a força de trabalho neurocirúrgica e fazendo contribuições notáveis. Nesse sentido, após 75 anos da formação da primeira neurocirurgiã na América Latina, e o ingresso vagaroso de mulheres na área, vieram à tona discussões sobre a prevalência de homens e a baixa participação feminina dentro da especialidade. Por outro lado, um percentual progressivo de discentes matriculados em instituições de ensino superior de medicina são mulheres, e atrelado a isso há um crescimento de neurocirurgiãs. Todavia, ao ingressar na área, se deparam com barreiras como: discriminação institucional baseada em gênero, falta de políticas de inclusão em programas de residência, além da escassez de modelos de mentoria para mulheres. Além disso, a gravidez consiste em uma parte expressiva da equação. Mulheres residentes muitas vezes enfrentam uma realidade onde muitos hospitais não têm creche no local ou, a preços acessíveis. Diante disso, é comum que mulheres que desejam famílias se auto-selecionam fora de uma carreira em neurocirurgia, em decorrência dos fatores supracitados e das dificuldades de apoio, inclusive institucional. O reflexo dessa disparidade de gêneros é bem expressivo no que tange à publicação científica. Embora uma tendência crescente na autoria feminina da literatura neurocirúrgica tenha ocorrido nas últimas duas décadas, esse avanço ainda não pode ser considerado satisfatório, pois a lacuna de gênero na autoria ainda é excessiva. Diante disso, faz necessário a implementação de medidas que visem dar suporte às discentes, assim como programas de mentoria que possibilitem o interesse e a continuidade na especialidade em questão.

Abstract:
Despite advances in gender equality, the field of neurosurgery is mostly made up of men. Despite this, the entry of women into the area has shown prominence even with the confrontation of social, cultural and promoting barriers. Latin American women are diversifying the neurosurgical workforce and making notable contributions. In this sense, 75 years after the formation of the first neurosurgeon participation in Latin America, and the slow entry of women in the area, the prevalence of men and the low number of women within the specialty came to the fore. On the other hand, a progressive percentage of students enrolled in higher medical education institutions are women; linked to this there is a growth of neurosurgeons. However, when entering the field, they face barriers such as institutional discrimination based on gender, the lack of inclusion policies in residency programs and the scarcity of mentoring models for women. Furthermore, pregnancy is an expressive part of the equation. Resident women often face a reality where many hospitals do not have on-site day care or return prices. Therefore, it is common for women who wish to self-select for a career in neurosurgery due to the aforementioned factors and difficulties in support, including institutional support. The reflection of this gender disparity is quite expressive with regard to scientific publication. Although a growing trend in female authorship in neurosurgical literature has occurred in the last two decades, this advance cannot yet be considered satisfactory, as the gender gap in authorship is still excessive. Therefore, it is necessary to implement measures aimed at supporting students, as well as mentoring programs that enable interest and continuity in the specialty in question.
