Abstract: Objective: To analyze which factors are associated with late adherence of pregnant women to prenatal care. Methods: This is a qualitative and descriptive study, carried out at the Guamá Basic Health Unit, Guamá neighborhood, Belém- PA, with 12 pregnant women enrolled in the health service after 12 weeks of pregnancy, regardless of age. The users were approached through an interview focused on the theme, having 2 (two) axes based on the objective of the study, being: Axis 1: Access of pregnant women to prenatal care: facilities and obstacles; and Axis 2: Awareness of the essentiality of prenatal care. Results: Through this study, it was possible to identify some factors that may contribute to pregnant women starting prenatal care late, such as: financial difficulties, lack of understanding regarding the topic, lack of information and low education. Conclusion: We concluded that, during this study, the lack of current studies on this topic was evident and the importance of raising awareness among health teams about the need to improve the communication process, so that health education can be effective in the practice of care. prenatal.
