Abstract: Obesity is on the rise in the country, and with this the demand for bariatric surgery has also increased. However, after the procedure, excess skin is common, which can cause functional and emotional complications. In order to reverse this misfortune, patients undergo the abdominoplasty procedure. However, like any surgical procedure, this is not free from complications and some factors may predispose to greater risks of complications. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the increased incidence of complications in post- bariatric abdominoplasty. For this, the Pubmed and Virtual Health Library databases were used, with the descriptors “bariatric” and “abdominoplasty”, with the inclusion criteria being observational studies, controlled clinical trials and full text. Duplicate articles and articles that deviated from the main theme of this literature review were excluded. The universe covered 1159 articles, from 2019 to 2024. 26 in total were selected after reading and applying the criteria. Among those chosen, 8 studies linked high BMI to increased complications, 6 cited advanced age, 4 presented patients with comorbidities and 4 addressed massive weight loss. The analysis also showed other parameters that were not discussed because they were commented on in a smaller sample of articles. Despite the prominence of the aforementioned factors, most are still questioned in other literature, however, the obesity factor and massive weight loss seem to be the least likely to be challenged.
