Abstract: It is recognized that regular physical exercise develops several aspects of physical, mental and social health. Resistance training is one of the most practiced exercise modalities by adults, so it is essential to understand the reasons that direct these people to practice this training in a systematic way. The results showed that the highest scores of the factors that motivate this population to adhere to the resistance training program are physical condition (5.00), physical appearance (4.00), stress control (4.00) and fun and well-being (4.00). In addition to identifying the factors, they were correlated with age, showing a weak negative correlation with competition (rho=-0.214), a weak positive correlation with health rehabilitation (rho= 0.345). In females, positive correlations were found between age and social life (rho = 0.357), health rehabilitation (rho = 0.283) and disease prevention (rho = 0.301). The correlation of motivational factors with BMI was positive and moderate for body weight control (rho= 0.404) for both sexes. In this way, it is concluded that the adults of this research of both sexes who practice resistance training, maintain and seek its accomplishment to obtain a good physical condition, an adequate physical appearance, control the stress of their routine and belong to a place of fun that provides them with well-being, as when correlated with age presents over the years, a low search for competition, an increase in the desire for health rehabilitation, and in addition to these, the female sex is also motivated by involvement with social life.
