Abstract: Health professionals require knowledge and emotional balance to effectively perform their work activities. The lack of infrastructure and public policies can hinder working conditions. Stress is considered a state of tension of the organism that manifests itself in situations that threaten its balance or integrity. Anxiety is characterized by excessive fear and worry. It is a normal emotional reaction and can be useful in unfamiliar or dangerous situations. Depression is a serious health condition that interferes with daily life and, when not treated with due importance, can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. A literature review was conducted with the aim of identifying the main triggering factors of stress, anxiety, and depression among health professionals in the context of primary health care. A bibliographic search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the BIREME, MEDLINE, LILACS, and SciELO databases, as well as Google Scholar and the Ministry of Health website, covering publications from the last 20 years. The factors identified as influencing occupational stress and triggering anxiety and depression in different work activities within the context of primary health care included: insufficient and/or inadequate physical space, work overload, lack of medications and essential supplies, insufficient human resources, lack of security and excessive bureaucracy, feelings of helplessness in the face of precarious conditions, lack of recognition of efforts made, intense exposure to adverse situations, risk of exposure, threatened physical integrity, fear of retaliation, and the need to maintain employment.
