FATORES ASSOCIADOS AO CRESCIMENTO E USO INDISCRIMINADO DE METILFENIDATO NO BRASIL
O metilfenidato é um fármaco que age como estimulante do sistema nervoso central, sendo indicado para tratar pessoas com o Transtorno de Déficit de Atenção e Hiperatividade (TDAH). Desde o seu surgimento o metilfenidato passou por alterações aumentando o seu público-alvo, e, ao longo dos anos apresentando um constante crescimento em suas vendas. A presente revisão trata-se de estudo integrativo, que teve como interesse argumentar a respeito dos possíveis fatores que levam ao crescimento do uso do metilfenidato no Brasil, discutindo a manifestação do consumo fora de sua indicação terapêutica. Entretanto, apesar de ser um medicamento de uso controlado e sua venda permitida somente mediante receita médica, seu consumo não está sujeito apenas ao uso terapêutico, o mesmo vem sendo utilizado de forma indiscriminada para o aperfeiçoamento cognitivo, emagrecimento e em momentos recreativo. No estudo ficou evidente que a frequência do consumo de metilfenidato sem indicação terapêutica é bem maior entre os estudantes universitários, uma situação preocupante já que este medicamento pode ocasionar riscos à saúde.

Abstract:
Methylphenidate is a drug that acts as a central nervous system stimulant and is indicated to treat people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Since its appearance, methylphenidate has undergone changes, increasing its target audience, and, over the years, it has shown a constant growth in its sales. This review is an integrative study, focused in the discussion about the possible factors that lead to the growth of the use of methylphenidate in Brazil and discussing the manifestation of consumption with no therapeutic indication. However, despite the fact that it is a controlled-use medicine and its sale is permitted only with the prescription, its consumption is not only subject to therapeutic use. It has been used indiscriminately for cognitive improvement, weight loss and in recreational moments. In the study it was evident that the frequency of methylphenidate consumption without therapeutic indication is much higher among university students, a worrying situation since this medication can cause health risks.
