Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the mais causes of death in the world, representing 31,3% of tota deathas worldwide. Following the same patter, in Brazil CVDs are also the main cause of death and the prevalence in the ault population is estimated at 8 to 9%. One of the mais risk factors for the emergence of CVDs is dyslipidemia, wich is a metabolic disorder that increases the concentratioof triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood and can trigger the delopment of atherosclerotic plaques. Several treatments are indicated with the aim of improving the patient’s lipid profile, among which the use of drugs stands out. Aiming mainly to reduce total serum cholesterol, statins, HMG-CoA-reductase inhibitors, are the first-line treatment drugs. In combination with statins, ezetimiba, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, has also been used. In addition to these drugs, others have shown good results, such as biles acid sequestrants, PCSK-9 inhibitors and bempedoic acid, which cause an increase in LDL receptors in hepatocytes. The constant study of new drugs with hypocholesterolemic action is extremely necessary, as is their communication in the medical world.
