Abstract: This study aims to present Pharmacobotany as a strategic axis of the plant-based pharmaceutical value chain, demonstrating how its methods support the authentication, traceability, and quality control of raw materials and finished products. It combines a historical-regulatory review with a technical-scientific synthesis, covering taxonomy and systematics; macroscopic and microscopic analyses, classical histochemistry, and chromatographic profiles. It integrates contemporary approaches such as DNA barcoding/metabarcoding, LC–HRMS, ion mobility, mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI), and chemometrics, in alignment with official compendia and Brazilian standards. Pharmacobotany is reaffirmed as a foundational discipline for identifying and authenticating herbal drugs, including fragmented or powdered materials. The combination of macro- and micromorphological characters with histochemical assays and chromatographic profiles mitigates adulteration, standardizes raw materials, and underpins reproducible specifications. From an international perspective, the convergence of morphology, high-resolution chemistry, and genomics broadens the detection of chemotypes, substantiates verification of provenance, and advances the standardization of requirements. It is concluded that Pharmacobotany constitutes a metrological and regulatory platform indispensable to responsible innovation and health-regulatory decision-making, strengthening supply chains and aligning industry with scientific-regulatory best practices.
