Abstract: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects about 10% to 25% of the world's population, with the main symptoms being chronic abdominal pain and changing bowel habits, changing defecation patterns, between diarrhea and/or constipation. The causes are still unclear, however, genetic, environmental and psychosocial factors tend to increase the risk of developing the syndrome. Its diagnosis is made based on the application of criteria called Rome IV, in addition to the application of anamnesis, physical examination, psychological evaluation and, if necessary, minimal laboratory tests. In view of this, this research included a bibliographic review regarding the pathophysiology of IBS and the development of a farinaceous food supplement, based on green banana flour, so that it would help in the treatment and management of the signs and symptoms of IBS. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, data regarding the syndrome were collected from articles and bibliographical reviews on PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and official gastroenterology websites. For the formulation of the food supplement, data were collected regarding ingredients that are more acceptable, in terms of symptoms, by patients affected by IBS. At the end of the research, the set of possible ingredients to be used for the development of the farinaceous product that helps in the intestinal modulation of patients with IBS was obtained.
