• Abstract: Currently, there's a surge in the pursuit of aesthetic dental treatments, fueled by the exaggerated importance placed on physical appearance in online spaces. Consequently, there's been an increasing interest in dental veneer treatments. However, the obsession with flawless dentistry has resulted in many studies prioritizing aesthetics over proper chewing health and functionality. This trend can lead to failures in dental veneers, ultimately compromising the oral health of patients who were initially in good condition. Therefore, this study aimed to delve into the potential causes of these veneer failures, identify the most common ones, and assess their impact on patients. Additionally, we aimed to propose potential solutions to these issues, with the goal of enhancing treatment quality and ensuring comprehensive oral health care. To achieve this, a search was conducted in databases such as the Virtual Health Library, Scielo, and Pubmed, utilizing Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) including Dental Veneers; Periodontium; Oral Health; Dental Aesthetics. Works published in the past decade, available in English or Portuguese, and addressing factors underlying failures, such as adhesion issues and adjustment problems, were considered for the study. Following a thorough analysis, it's evident that the heightened demand for aesthetic procedures has prompted unskilled practitioners to perform interventions that jeopardize patient well-being. Adhesion problems, fractures, secondary cavities, and compromised periodontal health emerge as common issues contributing to the failure of dental veneers. These complications not only impact oral health but also have psychological repercussions on patients.
