EXTENSÃO EM ODONTOLOGIA HOSPITALAR – ATENÇÃO INTEGRAL AO PACIENTE ACAMADO
O cuidado da saúde bucal tem
relevância indiscutível para os pacientes
acamados, já que a boca pode atuar como
uma fonte de disseminação de microrganismos
patogênicos que podem levar a doenças
sistêmicas, aumentando o tempo de internação
do paciente, os custos hospitalares e a taxa
de morbidade. A internação hospitalar deve
promover saúde, não podendo deixar de lado
a saúde bucal. Baseado nestas assertivas o
projeto de extensão em odontologia hospitalar
visa incluir o Cirurgião-Dentista na equipe de
profissionais responsáveis pelas Unidades
Hospitalares implementando ações preventivas,
diagnósticas e paliativas em saúde bucal,
como rotina diária da atenção ao paciente,
proporcionando uma melhoria na condição de
conforto e bem estar e podendo contribuir para
a redução do tempo de internação e dos custos
hospitalares, buscar a integralidade e qualidade
a atenção á saúde e estimular o trabalho em
equipe multidisciplinar e multiprofissional. Os
acadêmicos voluntários do curso de odontologia
da Universidade de Passo Fundo realizaram
suas atividades no Hospital da Cidade do
município de Passo Fundo-RS.

Abstract:
Oral health care has undoubted relevance for bedridden patients, as the
mouth can act as a source of dissemination of pathogenic microorganisms that can lead
to systemic diseases, increasing the hospitalization time, hospital costs and morbidity
rate. Hospitalization should promote health and should not neglect oral health. Based on
that the extension project in hospital dentistry aims to include the dentist in the team of
professionals responsible for the hospitalar units, implementing preventive, diagnostic
and palliative actions in oral health, as a daily routine of patient care, providing an
improvement in the condition of comfort as well-being of the patient and being able to
contribute to the reduction of hospitalization time and hospital costs, seek integrality and
quality of health care and encourage multidisciplinary and multiprofessional teamwork.
The academics volunteer of the dentistry course of the University of Passo Fundo
performed their activities at the Hospital das Clinicas of Passo Fundo-RS.
