Abstract: Learning General Chemistry is essential to understand the laws and interpret the foundations and basic principles of the environment that surrounds us. The following work expresses the evaluations made by students who took the General Chemistry subject of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the National University of Tucumán, Argentina, on the different thematic contents of the subject. The objectives of this work were to determine which are the topics and subtopics in which students present the greatest difficulties when studying, to know the perception of students when studying the subject of general chemistry and to collect data that contribute to improving the methodology of teaching. To carry out this work, a total of 925 students who took the subject between 2018 and the present at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Miguel Lillo Institute of the National University of Tucumán, Argentina were surveyed and interviewed. Analyzing the results we can conclude that with regard to the difficulty of the course in general, 15.8% of those surveyed stated that it was easy, 18.4% difficult and 65.8% very difficult. Regarding the difficulty of each of the program units, those that were easiest were chemical bonding-intermolecular forces and stoichiometry. Gases and solutions presented medium difficulty while the topics thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium and electrochemistry were classified as having greater difficulty. Based on the results obtained, the aim is to adapt teaching to different learning styles to satisfy individual needs, in addition to providing additional support materials to make the teaching of general chemistry interesting, relevant and accessible for students and achieve success. in the subject.
