EXPERIÊNCIAS IMIGRATÓRIAS EM PEQUENOS ESPAÇOS INSULARES. OS CASOS DAS ILHAS GRACIOSA (AÇORES) E EL HIERRO (CANÁRIAS)
No contexto de uma migração atual cada vez mais globalizada, também os territórios mais remotos têm sofrido alterações. Se bem que um número considerável continua a registar volumes de emigração assinaláveis, outras regiões assistem ao acréscimo do número de imigrantes. É o caso das pequenas unidades insulares atlânticas Graciosa e El Hierro – ilhas tradicionalmente associadas a territórios de emigração, mas que apresentam nos últimos trinta anos um acréscimo do contingente imigrante. O presente texto procura desmitificar este tipo de fenómeno migratório recente nestes espaços insulares tão limitados e, raramente, conhecidos. O principal objetivo passa por determinar os principais impactos que a chegada de imigrantes produz nas ilhas, e mais concretamente nas sociedades insulares. As questões nucleares que norteiam este estudo estão relacionadas com o tipo de atratividade que exercem nos imigrantes e com o seu nível de aceitação por parte das populações locais. Com o auxílio de fontes estatísticas oficiais de ambos os países ibéricos e recorrendo aos dois inquéritos aplicados no âmbito da nossa dissertação de doutoramento em 2014, um à população local (86 na Graciosa e 53 em El Hierro) e outro aos imigrantes estrangeiros (40 na Graciosa e 62 em El Hierro), procuraremos apresentar conclusões elucidativas sobre o modo de vida dos imigrantes nas pequenas ilhas dos Açores e das Canárias.

Abstract:
In the context of current migration increasingly globalized, the more remote territories also have changed. Although a considerable number still register substantial emigration volumes, other regions attend the increase in the number of immigrants. There is the case of small units like Graciosa and El Hierro - traditionally associated with the territories of emigration, but which present in the last 30 years an increase in the immigrant quota. The present text seeks to demystify this kind of recent migration in these island spaces so limited and rarely known. The main objective goes through to determine the major impact that the arrival of immigrants produces on the Islands, and more specifically insular societies. Nuclear issues guiding this study are related to the type of appeal engaged in immigrants and with your level of acceptance on the part of local populations. With the aid of official statistical sources from both countries and using two surveys applied within the framework of our PhD research in 2014, one to local population (86 in Graciosa and 53 in El Hierro) and other to the foreign immigrants (40 in Graciosal and 62 in El Hierro), we be able to present conclusions about the way of life of immigrants in the small islands of the Azores and the Canary Islands.
