Abstract: The objective of this study was to present an updated overview of the progress of hop cultivation in Brazil, in terms of understanding its adaptability to different production conditions, as well as its challenges. To this end, a descriptive study was conducted through a bibliographic survey of relevant and updated material. Hop cultivation has attracted attention due to its satisfactory results in Brazil, which has stimulated efforts to establish the crop in different Brazilian climates and soils and with lower production costs. Because it is a crop originating from Nordic countries and requires a cold climate, soil with a sandy loam texture and high nutritional demand, the movement to try to establish hops in Brazil is known as the ‘tropicalization of hops’. Beer is composed fundamentally of water, malt and hops. Although it accounts for 2% of the beverage's composition, hops are a striking ingredient, as they characterize the beer's aroma through their different perfumes and flavors. As the fifth largest beer producer in the world, making Brazil independent in hop production would enhance national agricultural production. The awareness of the importance of advancing research has led to hops becoming an increasingly popular crop among Brazilian producers and breweries, creating opportunities in the agricultural sector and productive self-sufficiency in the beer market.
