Abstract: Excipients are fundamental components of a pharmaceutical preparation. They serve a specific purpose in formulations. The choice of these substances, however, must be a careful process, as they can interfere with the bioavailability of drugs and cause side effects. The aim of this study was therefore to carry out an analysis of Brazilian scientific production on the standardization of excipients in the handling of solid pharmaceutical forms. Thus, a narrative literature review was carried out using the descriptors "excipient" associated through the Boolean operator "AND" with the following terms: "standardization" and "manipulation", indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (BVS), Capes Periodicals (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) and Google academic. Thirty-four initial articles were obtained, of which only 16 were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and eliminating one duplicate article. The results of the bibliographic research showed that the standardization of excipients is little studied and that publication of this subject in Brazilian literature is not very common. However, there was a predominance of studies that sought to analyze formulations that had some excipient in their formulation and how it could interfere with the bioavailability of the drug. It was observed that the correct choice of excipients in the handling of medicines favors the release and absorption of drugs and is extremely important for good therapeutic performance. It can be concluded that studies on standardized formulations in compounding pharmacies provide support and reliability to the production process of master drugs. However, there is a need for future studies that can contribute to the area by exploring variables that have not yet been widely addressed.
