EVOLUÇÃO DO PENSAMENTO GEOGRÁFICO E O ESTUDO DO MEIO AMBIENTE: DIÁLOGOS POSSÍVEIS
O objetivo principal deste artigo é analisar de forma teórico-descritiva o tratamento dado ao meio ambiente e às questões ambientais pela Geografia segundo diferentes abordagens assumidas por essa ciência em relação ao seu campo teórico-metodológico ao longo dos anos. Para isso, apresenta-se no artigo, a evolução do pensamento geográfico e sua possível inter-relação com os estudos ambientais, considerando a realização de uma geografia do ser humano primitivo aos tempos atuais. Demonstra-se também o tratamento dado às questões ambientais segundo os principais paradigmas atuais da Geografia – a Geografia Quantitativa, a Geografia Crítica ou Marxista e a Geografia Humanista. A compreensão do dinamismo da ciência geográfica evidencia que tal ciência se constituiu enquanto saber, influenciada, sobretudo, de sua origem aos dias atuais, pela evolução do ser humano, seu processo de ocupação territorial e, em especial, por suas relações com o meio ambiente e suas aspirações sociais. Tal característica leva a uma reflexão sobre o conhecimento geográfico atual bem como sobre o arcabouço teórico-metodológico utilizado por geógrafos para tratar as questões ambientais atuais. O resumo deste artigo foi anteriormente publicado no Anais do XVII EGAL- Encontro de Geógrafos da América Latina ocorrido em 2018 na cidade de Quito, Equador.

Abstract:
The main objective of this article is to analyze in a theoretical-descriptive way the treatment given to the environment and environmental issues by Geography according to different approaches taken by this science in relation to its theoretical-methodological field over the years. For this, the article presents the evolution of geographic thought and its possible interrelationship with environmental studies, considering the realization of a geography of the primitive human being to the present times. It also demonstrates the treatment given to environmental issues according to the main current paradigms of Geography - Quantitative Geography, Critical or Marxist Geography and Humanist Geography. The understanding of the dynamism of geographic science shows that this science was constituted as knowledge, influenced, above all, from its origin to the present day, by the evolution of the human being, its process of territorial occupation and, especially, by its relations with the environment and their social aspirations. This characteristic leads to a reflection on current geographic knowledge as well as on the theoretical-methodological framework used by geographers to address current environmental issues.
