EVOLUÇÃO DA ÁREA DE AGRICULTURA IRRIGADA NA REGIÃO NORDESTE DO BRASIL NAS ÚLTIMAS DÉCADAS
No interior nordestino os projetos de irrigação impeliram o avanço de uma moderna agricultura: a fruticultura para exportação e a produção de vinho, presente na área em torno de Petrolina, em Pernambuco, Juazeiro, na Bahia, e na área do Agropolo Assu-Mossoró, no Rio Grande do Norte, beneficiada pela grande insolação, mão-de-obra e existência de solos com alta fertilidade mineral. Buscando obter informações importantes para o planejamento do crescimento sustentável da agricultura irrigada e o uso eficiente dos recursos hídricos da Região Nordeste do Brasil, objetivou-se com este trabalho analisar os dados sobre irrigação na região com base nos Censos Agropecuários do IBGE de 1996, 2006 e 2017, bem como nos dados obtidos do Atlas Irrigação da ANA de 2017 e 2019. A área de agricultura irrigada na Região Nordeste do Brasil variou de 751886 ha, em 1996, a 1255729 ha, em 2017, havendo um acréscimo de 67,01% na área irrigada na Região, nas últimas duas décadas. Baseado em uma projeção tendencial a área irrigada na Região Nordeste do Brasil deve atingir 1623237 ha, em 2030.

Abstract:
In the northeastern interior of Brazil, irrigation projects have propelled the advance of a modern agriculture: fruit growing for export and wine production, present in the area around Petrolina, in Pernambuco, Juazeiro, in Bahia, and in the area of Agropolo Assu-Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte, benefited by the great insolation, labor and existence of soils with high mineral fertility. In order to obtain important information for the planning of sustainable growth of irrigated agriculture and the efficient use of water resources in the Northeast region of Brazil, the objective of this work was to analyze the irrigation data in the region based on the Agricultural Census of IBGE of 1996, 2006 and 2017, as well as the data obtained from the Irrigation Atlas of ANA of 2017 and 2019. The irrigated agriculture area in the Northeast region of Brazil ranged from 751886 ha, in 1996, to 1255729 ha, in 2017; with an increase of 67.01% in the irrigated area in the Region, in the last two decades. Based on a trend projection the irrigated area in Northeast region of Brazil is expected to reach 1623237 ha in 2030.
