EVOLUÇÃO DA ÁREA DE AGRICULTURA IRRIGADA NA REGIÃO DO SEMIÁRIDO BRASILEIRO NAS ÚLTIMAS DÉCADAS
O Semiárido Brasileiro é uma região caracterizada pelo clima seco, com poucas chuvas e elevada evapotranspiração. As condições hídricas são insuficientes para sustentar rios caudalosos que se mantenham perenes nos longos períodos de ausência de precipitações. Buscando obter informações importantes para o planejamento do crescimento sustentável da agricultura irrigada e o uso eficiente dos recursos hídricos do Semiárido Brasileiro, objetivou-se com este trabalho analisar os dados sobre irrigação na região com base nos Censos Agropecuários do IBGE de 1996, 2006 e 2017, bem como nos dados obtidos do Atlas Irrigação da ANA de 2017 e 2019. A área de agricultura irrigada na Região do Semiárido Brasileiro variou de 385267 ha, em 1996, a 730202 ha, em 2017; sendo que houve um acréscimo de 89,53% na área irrigada na Região, nas últimas duas décadas. Baseado em uma projeção tendencial a área irrigada no Semiárido Brasileiro deve atingir 1131125 ha, em 2030.

Abstract:
The Brazilian Semiarid is a region characterized by dry climate, with few rainfall and high evapotranspiration. Water conditions are insufficient to sustain flowing rivers that remain perennial in long periods of absence of precipitation. In order to obtain important information for the planning of sustainable growth of irrigated agriculture and the efficient use of water resources of Brazilian Semiarid, the objective of this work was to analyze the irrigation data in the region based on the Agricultural Census of IBGE of 1996, 2006 and 2017, as well as the data obtained from the Irrigation Atlas of ANA of 2017 and 2019. The irrigated agriculture area in Brazilian Semiarid region ranged from 385267 ha, in 1996, to 730202 ha, in 2017; and there was an increase of 89.53% in the irrigated area in the Region, in the last two decades. Based on a trend projection the irrigated area in Brazilian Semiarid region is expected to reach 1131125 ha in 2030.
