EVENTOS ADVERSOS EM UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA: REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

• Abstract: Objective: To identify adverse events in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units Method: Integrative review conducted in May 2021, with a search in  the LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE, and CINAHL databases. The descriptors "intensive care units" were used; "critical care"; "harm to the patient" associated with the Boolean "AND". Included were articles published between 2016 and 2020, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Abstracts, dissertations, theses, letters, editorials, experience reports, and studies that treated neonatal and pediatric patients were excluded. The articles were organized according to year of publication, journal, title, authors, objective, type of study, level of evidence, and adverse events in intensive care. It was decided to perform a simple descriptive analysis, presenting them in categories. Results: The main adverse events identified in the studies were associated with medications and fluids, skin lesions, healthcare-related infection, accidental removal of invasive devices, communication between teams, falls, and patient identification. Conclusion: A lack of scientific production related to the occurrence of adverse events in adult intensive care units was identified. It is understood that it is necessary to carry out research focused on the theme, with a view to identifying preventable incidents in this environment and possible possibilities for improvement in services.
