Abstract: Understanding hydrological behavior under different land use scenarios is essential for effective water resource planning and conservation. This research was conducted in the Peñas Blancas micro-watershed, located in the municipality of Tangua, Nariño department, Colombia. The objective was to model the hydrological behavior under various land use scenarios (current scenario - 2013, scenario 1 - 1989, and scenarios 2 and 3) using the SWAT model (Soil and Water Assessment Tool). The scenario with the best hydrological performance was scenario 1, characterized by a larger area of páramo and subpáramo, with an average flow rate of 1.70 m³/s. In comparison, the average flow rates for the other scenarios were 1.39 m³/s for scenario 2 (with a larger area of forest and pasture, and less páramo and subpáramo), 0.63 m³/s for the current 2013 scenario, and 0.45 m³/s for scenario 3. Both the current and scenario 3 showed reduced forest, páramo, subpáramo, and pasture cover, alongside an increase in agricultural areas, although they differed in the extent of each land use.
