Abstract: The main costs that affect the economic feasibility of automation projects on conventional tractors are component costs and engineering development costs, which increase the cost of implementation. This study evaluated at the economic viability of automating conventional tractors in two scenarios: without automation and with automation. The study was based on a utility tractor used on small farms in the Canadian province of Quebec. The feasibility of automating conventional tractors was analyzed using economic indicators with the results obtained after determining revenues in both scenarios from corn production. The indicators in the scenario without automation proved to be a viable project with an interesting internal rate of return of 67.82% and a payback close to 2 and a half years after the investment and an NPV of CAD 72,543.69. When using tractors with automation, it was observed that the internal rate of return was 82.88%, greater than the Hurdle Rate of 19.97%, with a payback little bit above than 2 years and an NPV of CAD 204.532,58 in the region analyzed, proving an efficiency of 182% above that of the conventional tractor. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out, validating the behavior of the net present value as a function of the variation in the efficiency scenario of both tractors, as well as altering the minimum rates of attractiveness with the number of bags produced and evaluating the costs to be reduced over time. The project demonstrated the need to add value to the price of the final product so that the investment is recovered in less time.
