Abstract: The stones in the urinary tract corresponds to a solid composed of some components, which can result in a clinical-pathological. The main compositions of the calculations are calcium oxalate, calcium and magnesium which promote urinary crystallization and formation of aggregates in the urothelium. The development of gallstones is a multifactorial process that can is associated with environmental factors, occupation, age, sex and nutrition. Several factors are related to the development of this disease, making it important epidemiological investigation and identification of the main factors involved. The present study was developed by the SciELO database, PubMed and others, which were researched articles on the frequency of urolithiasis in population. Studies have shown that the incidence of calculations is common, affecting 5 to 15% of the general population, being the third cause of disease in the genitourinary tract. And in Brazil episodes of lithiasis have increased significantly, it is estimated that 5% of the population is a carrier, representing 7 million cases. It has been seen that women have less risk of developing kidney stones than men. It was also observed that in order for the higher prevalence lithiasis affects adults, elderly and less often, children. Some systemic diseases are associated with the development of stones, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity and metabolic syndrome. Besides these factors the low water intake may be related to the high prevalence of calculogênese. The results of these studies demonstrate the need to adopt preventive measures and education, to occur a reduction in relapses and new cases of urolithiasis in the general population. Some measures are proposed increase in water intake, diet with lower energy value and exercise.
